1.
In the ashes of the bridges you've burned, There's a flower still gripping the earth. If these ruins had something to say, They'd tell me that I am to blame. I've scraped up and bruised my knees, from begging like a stray at your feet. Now I'm breaking, I'm pulling apart, With a bullet sent straight to your heart. I'll fight like a lion this time, Not the orphan you took from the cold. Cut the wires and sever the cords, I don't need them to breathe anymore. There's a garden that's blooming inside, And it's begging to breathe in the light. I'm a ship that has chosen it's course, And I'll keep it through wind and through storm. And I know where I've thrown in my lot, Like the gallows or the firing squad. These are weapons on the tip of my tongue. I've held my fire for far too long. I'll fight like a lion this time, Not the orphan you took from the cold. Cut the wires and sever the cords, I don't need them to breathe anymore. I'm sick of just standing in line, And watching my heroes all die. I'm wiser and a little more bold, My story just hasn't been told.
2.
Slip down to the empty streets in the pouring rain, Where the ghosts, they scream. “Did you know our names?” City lights like torches burn to remind us of Those who passed away. Waiting for a saint. A life out on the line, Demands more than resting upon a dream For us to turn the tides How do you expect to live when you’re afraid to die? So cut me loose and crown me king of the losing side. Right now we need a miracle, but they aren’t cheap. And our prayers for help Are far too weak If these bones are all we have, then they’ll have to do Held together with tape and glue. A life out on the line, Demands more than resting upon a dream For us to turn the tides How do you expect to live when you’re afraid to die? So cut me loose and crown me king of the losing side. None of us are saints, Just weary and broken. We’re all the same We carry the wounded. How do you expect to live when you’re afraid to die? So cut me loose and crown me king of the losing side.
3.
All heroes die eventually. The world is cold, it’s heart and soul are slowly spinning gears. And the worst, to lose a child. Beneath the ice are the vapors of heaven and hell. You’re laid on these flowers for the fires to devour. You disintegrate and you fade, and you fade. A mother waits at the door, watching for a son, for a boy won’t, won’t be coming home. And neither God nor the devil are gonna break the rules, gonna rescue you. The freeway is king tonight. You’re laid on these flowers for the fires to devour. You disintegrate and you fade, and you fade. You burn like a beacon, to light the horizon. The night is bright as day. We’re awake. And the machine, it carries on. It never breaks, it will never pause. Not for the tears of men or gods. Not for the death of an only son. All my life the TV lights are burning brighter than the sun.
4.
Rows of cars in the rain. Your story concludes today. Sons and daughters in a line. Your war becomes ours tonight. And the trees will last throughout the storm. You said some people only want, recognition and response. You raised these men to be, the lions that guard the sheep.
5.
I think back in a distant past, At a moments notice you were always there, with your big smile, big heart, open arms, carrying us. I still remember every single day, The joy you shared in a perfect way with your big plans, your big dreams, your kind eyes Cherishing life away. We miss you. I think back to my selfish past, I wouldn’t live with the advice you’d give. Your insight was always right and still I, I passed it by. What I’d give to take me back for just one more glance, One more chance to say I miss you, I wish you could be here and carry our tears away. We miss you Our tears are still falling, Forever lost on you. Our tears are still falling Forever fond, forever fond of you.
